Enrolment
Parents and school staff should apply for the DESU in consultation with their local Regional Student Support Coordinator or their delegate. The Regional Coordinator should contact the Deputy Principal/Manager of the DESU to discuss and initiate enrolment. An information package sent out via mail or email or fax provides documentation and guidance for the enrolment process.
The regional panel must support and recommend that the DESU is the most appropriate placement for the student. It is also important that they nominate a local case manager. The application should then be forwarded to the Northern Sydney regional placement panel with a copy to the DESU. The Northern Sydney regional panel will consider the request in consultation with the DESU.
Students who are not enrolled in a government school can contact the Student Services Consultant or the Disability Programs Consultant at the local Department of Education School Area Office directly.
All student placements are reviewed at least every twelve months by DESU staff and Northern Sydney Regional staff after consultation with the local case manager. Some categories of enrolment will be reviewed with the local regional staff every six months or as the need arises.
